Revived Thoughts Podcast 2

Some time ago, I was really blessed to be able to voice a minister from the late 1800’s named J.C. Ryle for the Revived Thoughts podcast.

It really was a devotional experience for me. It bolstered my walk significantly, and I told them that I was **really** looking forward to doing it again.

Well, apparently, they liked my interpretation, because it has been my honor to be selected as one of their regular voices. They wrote, “It’d work out well if you wanted to be our J. C. Ryle! If this is something you’re interested in, let me know.”

I let them know right away, and so for my second recording for them is the J.C. Ryle sermon, The Christian Race. I hope you’ll go over to Revived Thoughts, and give it (and the other excellent sermons) a listen!

God bless you as you seek to deepen your faith.

Matthew 13:47-52

When planning for a road trip: what do you do to make sure it’s a good trip? What do you bring? Leave behind?

As You Are GOING (into all the world)…

Weigh Carefully ~ Matthew 13:47-48

  • 47 notice that all kinds are caught: people, ideas
  • 48 AFTER the catch, the results are examined: people, ideas
(WE can’t judge people, but we CAN use discernment about ideas: what lines up with God’s Word? What conforms to God’s Will, and fits in God’s Kingdom?)

Live Intentionally ~ Matthew 13:49-52

  • 49/50 Wicked end: 1) away from God; 2) unpleasant; 3) awareness (why wouldn’t we warn? => kid w/ RADAR AHEAD sign)
  • 51/52 God is doing new things even today
(cf. Isa. 43:18-19: “Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way...)

Depend Wisely ~ 1 Kings 3:9

  • So give your servant a discerning heart to govern your people and to distinguish between right and wrong. For who is able to govern this great people of yours?”
  • We follow God’s example: He calls to all people, so should we. He’s responsible for the final judgment, we’re not. In the meantime, we pay attention, examine the new, keep what’s worthy, and make it available with the best of tradition.

God examines people; we examine ideas. God calls the world to Himself; we can’t shut out the world completely, but instead use careful discernment to discover is God is doing a new thing that we didn’t realize. We depend upon God’s given wisdom to help us learn to discern!

Philippians 3:4-14

When an old Moses Lake grocery store closed, the location reopened with new businesses that are still doing well. How did we know there was a plan for that site’s redevelopment?

What Are The Signs Of Our Salvation?

Under New Management ~ Philippians 3:4-11
Under New Managment

  • 4/6 on what do you base your spiritual self-worth?
  • 7/8 loss=damaged, totaled
  • 8/9 skubala=dung, waste
  • 10/11 I talk a lot about being made like Christ, but we’re not going to become little Messiahs: rather, we are stuck to Christ through suffering. He suffered like we suffer: that was His way of showing that He had become fully like us, 100% human. And because He became like us, we are able to identify with Him. Piggy Back’d Righteousness. Jesus carries us (Isa. 46:3-4)

Under Construction ~ Philippians 3:12-14
Under Construction

  • 12 we are IN PROCESS; picture the passing of the baton; Christ chose us to be on His team; He is the anchor and will finish the race, but we get to run as well
  • 13 We have GOT to let go of our old baggage; we can’t carry it into Christ’s eternity
  • 14 Finish line: Steve Taylor lyrics

God carries us; teaches us to walk with Him, puts us in His race, runs along side of us. But we must run as well: the finish line is closer than we think!
