Raised With Christ!

Raised With Christ! Sermon Audio Here

Colossians 3:1-4

If you join a sports team, you are expected at practice. If you join the cast of a show, you are expected at rehearsal. What is expected of you if you join with Christ?

Every Who Loves God Faces Four Challenges:

1] Set Your HEART
v1 “since then” refers to those who fulfill condition in Col. 2:12:
2:12: [You were] buried with Him in baptism and raised with Him through your faith in the power of God, who raised Him from the dead.

3:1: Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is seated at the right hand of God.
What do you LONG for?

2] Set Your MIND
v2 Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things.
What do you DWELL on?

We all know the importance of correct settings: a mechanic uses Top Dead Center; a navigator uses North on a map. Our spiritual lives have settings, too; and when we try to set them according to our own whims instead of God’s standards, is it any wonder that we, too, get lost?

3] Let Your LIFE HIDE
v3 For you died, and your life is now hidden with Christ in God.
What do you CRAVE that you need to let go?

4] Let Your LORD BE SEEN
v4 When Christ, who is your life, appears, then you also will appear with him in glory.
Whose glory have you been seeking?

We talked about settings, but what about LETTINGS? We have to admit that at times, we have to allow OTHERS to do for us: we don’t perform our own surgery. It’s good to let our SELF stop pretending it’s in control.

Jeremiah 31:3~ The LORD appeared to us in the past, saying: “I have loved you with an everlasting love; I have drawn you with loving-kindness.”

The Lord fulfills that promise IN YOU; God loves you, and the Lord is drawing you even today.

Luke 9:23-27

The cost of becoming a US citizen: on paper, $680. In practice, multiple thousands of dollars, plus unknown time spent waiting in personal and paperwork limbo. The cost of becoming a citizen of Heaven: EVERYTHING you have, everything you are.

For Kingdom Citizenship,

What Will You Give?

  • Luke 9:23 “would come after” = intend to follow;
  • 1) deny yourself (who benefits?) AND
  • 2) die daily (submit to SELF-death) AND
  • 3) accompany (find Jesus, and go with Him)

What Do You Value?

  • Luke 9:24 if you spend all your time and energy guarding your soul, the only thing you’ll have at the end is a wasted effort
  • if you completely let go of SELF for Christ, you gain YOU
  • Luke 9:25 so, what do you **really** value? Stuff? SELF? Power? Personal validation?

What Will You Show?

  • Luke 9:26 world’s def. of shame: bad feeling when you’re caught doing something wrong.
BIBLE def. of shame: realizing that you are wrong
  • if we think that lifting up Jesus’ word in our lives is a wrong thing, something of which we should be ashamed, then Jesus will AGREE with us, and leave us to our own SELF-ish devices
  • Luke 9:27 some people will never let go of SELF-righteousness; they will insist on being the ultimate standard for their own behavior and attitudes; others will, in this life of flesh, let go of its controlling nature, and instead become citizens in the Kingdom of God.

The election that matters most is God’s election of US as HIS.
