Snapshots from Mark: Miraculous Moments

Snapshots from Mark: Miraculous Moments Sermon Audio Here

Mark 6:30-56

The Prince of Egypt is one of my favorite films; it’s the story of the Exodus of God’s people from slavery to freedom. One of the most moving songs is “When You Believe”. The original draft of the song used the lyric “you can do miracles when you believe”, but this seemed to imply that the believer, not God, was responsible for performing miracles; the lyric was later changed to “there can be miracles when you believe”. God is still able to be about His miraculous business. Here’s how we might see Him at work:

Miracles Manifest When We

Feed Because Of Need ~ Mark 6:30-44 (Jesus Feeds the 5000)

  • 34 compassion because of a shepherd shortfall
  • 38 find out what resources you already have
  • 41 thank God for what you share (God can do more with it than you can)

See In The Storm ~ Mark 6:45-52 (Jesus Walks On Water)

  • 46 Jesus took time to pray; what do we do with our time?
  • 48 Jesus sees us in the storm, but waits for us to call out
  • 52 we misunderstand what God is doing because of the hardness of our hearts

Share What You’ve Seen ~ Mark 6:53-56 (Jesus Heals The Sick)

  • 54 people STILL recognize Jesus today
  • 55 “they heard” – they’re still listening

The difficulty in seeing God in our lives aren’t because God isn’t still at work; it’s because, like the disciples, we’re distracted by our surroundings. Let’s encourage one another to take our eyes off the storm, and see the Savior instead.

1 Peter 3:13-22

If you’ve ever felt overwhelmed, unsure, or at the end of your rope, remember your hope!

Remember Your Reasons To Hope:

1st: YOU ARE NOT ALONE WHEN YOU SUFFER

  • v13/14 you ARE blessed, not you would be; from the Beatitudes: God notices you in your suffering;

2nd: YOUR HOPE IS REASONABLE

  • v15 set apart/sanctify=for a holy and specific use (Good china)
  • (our hope is based in something real; not ridiculous or random)

3rd: YOUR HOPE DOESN’T NEED POWER

  • v16 meekness, respect, confidence
  • you do not need to be in a position of power to exercise hope

4th: GOD VALUES YOUR LIFE

  • v17 the good we do is worth any suffering that the Lord allows

5th: JESUS ALREADY PAID FOR YOUR SIN

  • v18 YOU don”t have to carry it

6th: STUCK? JESUS CAN FREE YOU

  • v19 if Jesus can free souls stuck in DEATH, He can certainly free you

7th: GOD PREPARES WAYS TO RESCUE HIS PEOPLE

  • v20 he did with Noah, and he did with Jesus

8th: GOD RESCUES FROM BEING OVERWHELMED

  • v21 get in the Ark!

9th: JESUS IN THE PERFECT POSITION TO SAVE: AT THE TOP

  • v22 He is above Angels, Authorities, Powers, and Problems!

Learning from Luke: Soul Lifting

Learning from Luke: Soul Lifting Sermon Audio Here

Luke 1:46-56

The holidays can be a festive time for many, and an emotionally draining time for others. Amid the “ho ho ho” of surface merriment, it can be very challenging to minister to those suffering through the season.

How Do We Deal With Depression?

Remember God’s Choice; Respond With Praise
Luke 1:46-49

  • v46/47 Mary is ALL IN, “body and soul”
  • v48 “gazed with favor on low estate” God chose her, NOT because of how great she was
  • v49 but because of how great HE is

Remember God’s Actions; Respond With Amazement
Luke 1:50-56

  • v50 generational mercy (thinking about the baby?)
  • v51 applied mastery
  • v52 exalts the modest
  • v53 provides for the meager
  • v54/55 assists the minion

Closing thought from verse 56: notice how Mary stayed with Elizabeth. This was for MUTUAL SUPPORT; this is our opportunity and challenge as well – sustain support one for another during times like these. Let us be ALL IN with those who need us most.
