I Can’t Get No…

I Can’t Get No… Sermon Audio Here

Ecclesiastes 5:8-16

I Can’t Get No Satisfaction, Rolling Stone’s Magazine #2 Song of all time was considered very controversial when it came out in 1965. It was considered an attack on the status quo. Which reminds me…

Because Life Is Temporary We Can’t Get…

Satisfaction from Power
vs8-9 power as a distraction from the task

  • people in positions of power seek even MORE power, to the detriment of all

Satisfaction from Money
vs10-14 money is transactional, not an end to itself

  • Rockefeller: how much $ is enough? “just a little bit more”

Satisfaction from Savings
vs15-16 what are we saving FOR?

  • hard work to save for the future – only will go so far

Lasting Satisfaction without the Lord
1 Tim. 6:6-12 God transcends the temporary

  • v6 godliness WITH contentment
  • v9/10 eager for money=meeting your own needs=idolatry
  • v11 pursue=IMPERATIVE FOLLOW (not chase to catch, but follow to stay on the right path)
  • v12 “take hold” the state of holding onto (bird, landing on log floating down river)

Our ultimate satisfaction is only found in maintaining our connection to Christ.

    You did it again! 😁
Ecclesiastes 1:14 “I have seen all the works which have been done under the sun, and behold, all is vanity and striving after wind.”Your message today is quick synopsis of the heart of Ecclesiastes.I am repeatedly struck by the realization that the messages with the most abiding impact are those that focus on the basic simplicity of living for Him.We try to complicate things with so many conditions and performances. (the law)It really is so simple. What’s difficult is removing ourselves (flesh) from the equation.Mt 6: 31-33 “Do not worry then, saying, ‘What will we eat?’ or ‘What will we drink?’ or ‘What will we wear for clothing?’ 32″For the Gentiles eagerly seek all these things; for your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things. 33″But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.
Your message today parallels Pastor Mark’s message today. Our Identity in Christ. Last week it was Ephesians 1. We were chosen by God, redeemed through Christ and Sealed in the Spirit. We are His.Today, continuing in that theme, Eph 2. Where once we were dead in our sin, we are now alive, saved by Faith in Gods Grace through Christ. And Eph 4:21-22. Live according to our salvation, putting off the old.
Thanks for this, Ed!! I do so love coming home to find your message in such close Harmony with the message I just dined on. A delightful, delectable desert!

    Blessings good Sir;
    Al
